Drug Cocktail Could Combat Hepatitis C

A study showed hepatitis C could be treated using boceprevir alongside peginterferon and ribavirine.

According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, a cocktail of drugs that includes a new class of antiviral agent has given positive results when used to treat hepatitis C.

The findings show that hepatitis C, a blood-borne viral disease spread, could be treated using boceprevir alongside peginterferon and ribavirine.

In the study, more than 1,000 patients were split into three groups; those groups who received doses of boceprevir showed a better response, with the virus disappearing from their blood in some cases. The two groups issued the antiviral agents showed a 59% and 66% response rate respectively.
