DaVita announces partnership with Frensenius

Partnership between DaVita and FMC will see dialysis patients benefit

US kidney care specialist DaVita has today (January 9th) announced a partnership that will see it provide certain pharmaceutical services and products to Fresenius Medical Care (FMC), which is a leading producer of dialysis products.

The agreement is in response to a 2011 Congress decision that will require some oral medicines to be included in the bundled payment model by 2016, with DaVita due to start providing services to FMC from later this year.
Medicare patients will be set to benefit as they will start receiving DaVita prescriptive drugs in their packages from the tail end of 2013.

Ronald Kuerbitz, chief executive officer of FMC north America, said: "By accessing DaVita's substantial investment in pharmacy capabilities, we can more efficiently use our resources to enhance other elements of our network and advance best practices in renal care."

He added that the new agreement would allow Medicare patients to coordinate all components of their treatment no matter where they are.
