Dow Chemical Company partners with Bend to develop new excipients

Dow has partnered with Bend Research to develop a new range of polymers and excipients to aid delivery of drugs with poor solubility.

The Dow Chemical Company has partnered with Bend Research to develop new excipients and drug-solubility solutions.

Bend Research, which specialises in the development and manufacturing of drug formulations, will work closely with the global leader in the supply of polymeric excipients that enable the delivery of drugs.

The exclusive collaboration will result in the development of spray-dried dispersion solutions as well as new polymers for oral drugs with poor solubility.

After collaborating on these polymers, the two firms will also work to ensure that they are supported by Quality-by-Design principles, as well as the ability to tailor the new materials to specific drugs.

Bob Maughon, senior research and development director for Dow, said that the company is dedicated to supporting the collaboration with various technologies, including polymer screening equipment and laboratory-scale product development.

"We welcome the opportunity to further focus Dow's proven excipient and materials science expertise in the area of enhancing drug solubility, and we are enthusiastic about working with the world leader in spray-dried dispersions to ensure that our customers receive the best possible polymer solutions," he said.
