EMA Hosts Meeting with European Parliament Delegation

There was an in-depth discussion on antimicrobial resistance and the reduced effectiveness of antibiotics due to high levels of use in humans and animals.

A delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) has visited the European Medicines Agency to hear an update on its activities.

The meeting, held on Wednesday and Thursday last week, was part of ENVI's regular cycle of visits to the European Agencies under its remit. ENVI last visited the Medicines Agency in 2007.

Topics included changes to European Union legislation on medicines, including the implementation of the pharmacovigilance legislation, new legislation on falsified medicines and information to patients, and proposals for changes to the laws on veterinary medicines.
