EU Council Adopts Falsified Medicines Directive

The Council of the European Union formally adopted the Directive on Falsified Medicines, which was approved by the European Parliament last February.

The European Union Council of Ministers has formally adopted  the Directive on Falsified Medicines, the EU’s new law on fighting counterfeit medicines.

The Directive on Falsified Medicines, agreed with the European Parliament last February, insists that medicine packages have special safety features to help identify fakes. It also mandates a common logo for legitimate online pharmacies to tackle the Internet trade in counterfeit medicines.

In addition, it strengthens controls of the supply chain for active substances and medicine wholesalers.
