Global Pharmaceutical Industry Calls for Cooperation on Counterfeit Medicines

Global industry groups have teamed up to tackle the serious problem of counterfeiting.

Major pharmaceutical associations from around the world have issued a joint statement demanding a crackdown on counterfeit medicines.

In their statement, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA), Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and Japanese Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) say they are joining forces to tackle counterfeits from illicit websites and other sources around the world.

The organisations intend to promote access to safe and effective medicines; advocate patient education about the risks of counterfeit drugs; and combat unsafe medicines.
