Leadership Lessons - Bridging the Gap: Empowering girls with in STEM

It is a known fact that despite accounting for a significant proportion of the overall workforce, females are underrepresented in science technology engineering and Mathematics (STEM) occupations. Unravelling the reasons why this particular gender gap exists can be a complex affair but it is fair to say a good start point would be from the beginning during early education. Various studies have shown that during their education, fewer girls than boys choose to study STEM subjects at secondary or high school and university. In this interview with Asmita Khanolkar, Senior Director, Cambridge Pharma, SMC we will discuss various forums to empower girls with STEM education, redress the balance, and explore avenues of what can be done to encourage more girls to take up subjects that will equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to build a successful career in science and technology. • How can we inspire more girls to join scientific and technical roles? • Can we inspire diversity in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical/Device Industry? • What does it take to build leaders and entrepreneurs? • Industry Support, Mentor support, how can we engage?
