Merck Wins Fifth Fosamax State Court Trial

Merck says it has won its latest lawsuit connected to osteoporosis drug Fosamax.

A state court jury in New Jersey has found in favour of Merck in its latest case involving a woman who blamed her jaw-related problems on her use of the drug Fosamax (alendronate sodium).

 

The lawsuit was the second case to go to state court in New Jersey as part of coordinated litigation on the drug.

 

Merck has now won five out of six Fosamax-related cases that have gone to trial, but faces more than 2,300 such lawsuits.

 

The latest plaintiff said she had used Fosamax between 2002 and 2008 and had suffered jaw problems following the extraction of four teeth in October 2007.
