North American facial injectables market on the rise

Facial injectibles will be big business in North America over the next five years.

The market in North America for facial injectables such as botulinum toxin (botox) and dermal fillers will continue to show strong growth over the next five years.

That is according to new research by the Millennium Research Group, which suggests that demand for these pharmaceutical products in the US and Canada will exceed $1.7 billion by 2017.

With facial injectable procedures becoming more acceptable to the general population, the potential patient base is anticipated to rise quickly.

These products are also increasingly being offered by family practitioners, dentists, gynaecologists and ear-nose-and-throat-specialists as a means of generating additional income for their businesses.

Kristina Vidug, analyst for MRG, said: "The dermal filler segment is much more diverse than botox, with many more competitors, particularly in the Canadian market."

She added that several companies in Canada are expected to launch new products in this segment by 2017, as a result of the greater ease with which they can acquire approval from Health Canada compared to the US Food and Drug Administration
