Nottingham supporting European drug discovery drive

The University of Nottingham is involved in the European Lead Factory drug discovery drive.

The University of Nottingham is supporting a new European drive to encourage the development of drug formulations.

Under the auspices of the research programme – European Lead Factory – several of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Europe will be working together with small enterprises and academic institutions to make new drug discovery breakthroughs.

Nottingham University will work with Sygnature Discovery in BioCity Nottingham in a collaboration that will receive more than 6 million euros in funding.

All in all, the European Lead Factory will see 196 million euros pumped into projects to advance innovative drug development across the continent.

The first programme of its kind, it was launched by an international consortium made up of over 30 partners and is also supported by Innovative Medicines Initiative.

Professor Chris Moody, Sir Jesse Boot Professor in the University of Nottingham, said: "The European Lead Factory initiative presents academic chemists with the chance to design and develop their own ideas for drug design, whilst working closely with industry."
