'Organs-on-chips' to Accelerate Drug Candidate Assessment

Harvard scientists hope to develop a unique instrument that will help drug developers to assess new drug candidates.

Scientists are developing multiple 'organs-on-chips' which may one day help to speed up the assessment of new drug candidates.

 

Researchers at Harvard University's Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering are to develop an automated system that integrates ten human organs-on-chips.

 

The devices will allow researchers to study human physiology outside the body, as well as the effects of investigational drugs on organs and the body as a whole.

 

An agreement worth up to $37 million has been struck with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), and researchers say the work could ultimately help to
