Pharmaceutical Giants Join Public-private Collaboration to Find Antibiotics

A new public-private collaboration aimed at discovering antibiotics has been welcomed by the industry.

A new approach to antibiotic research has been announced in Europe that will see some of the biggest names in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology working alongside public partners.

 

The 'NewDrugs4BadBugs' research project forms part of the European Commission's efforts to tackle the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.

 

Initial funding worth €109million has been provided by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), with a further €114.7million contributed by GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sanofi and Basilea Pharmaceutica.
