Researchers: New Pain Drug Tastes Awful

Pain Therapeutics is out to develop a more abuse-resistant drug that includes oxycodone, a very effective painkiller which has proven to be very easy to abuse in the past.

Pain Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company that develops novel drugs, recruited 45 adults with a history of abusing prescription painkillers and asked them to try their experimental treatment Remoxy and compare it with their experience with OxyContin.

Remoxy, the trial participants reported, tasted awful and was much harder to chew--which is exactly what researchers had wanted to hear.
