Sustainability in Mind – Aptar Pharma’s Way Forward to Circular Solutions

The pharmaceutical industry has recognized the urgency in reducing their CO2 footprint and the need to address the climate change as well as the global waste crisis through circularity. Solutions towards more circularity in the industry are therefore key and the traditional take-make-dispose linear production cycle is going to be replaced with the concept of circular economy. Aptar Pharma recognizes that drug-delivery solutions have to be part of that process, and has started to develop a range of solutions that embrace the circular principles of recycle, replace, reduce and reuse. Today, Aptar Pharma is able to offer several solutions enabling pharmaceutical products with a reduced CO2 footprint for dermal, ophthalmic, nasal and pulmonary applications.

The cost of non-adherence alone is US$300 billion per year with $188 billion of US pharma revenue lost. Aptar provides a broad range of Digital Healthcare disease management solutions that are ideal for patients who will self-administer their medications. • Webinar Benefits of Nasal Drug Delivery – More than just Hay Fever

In this webinar, speaker Gemma Budd, Director of Business Development, Nanopharm, will highlight the considerations for both systemic/N2B and intranasal vaccines, and the differences in approach when designing the best device and formulation combination. This session was originally broadcast as part of the Pharmapack Europe 2022. Nasal sprays have been around for decades to successfully manage conditions such as allergic rhinitis (hayfever), where treatment of the nasal cavity is the target. Locally acting nasal drug products continue to be developed to treat other infectious diseases, with a big focus on biologic molecules. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the interest in intranasal vaccine administration to enable rapid roll out of vaccines with fewer supply chain challenges for respiratory diseases, and these products target the NALT region of the nose. By contrast, due to the potential for enhanced and rapid bioavailability, there is resurgence of interest in intranasal delivery to treat systemic disease, and particularly CNS indications, where direct nose-to-brain (N2B) delivery via targeting the olfactory region of the nose.
  • Webinar Moving Patients Training from Clinical to Home Settings

The COVID-19 pandemic brought on a new age of connected health, with telehealth utilization rates spiking 78 times higher than in February 2020. Telehealth utilization has now stabilized and remains 38 times higher than in February 2020. As new biologic drugs are launched onto the market; more patients can receive treatment in their home as opposed to going to a clinic for an IV infusion. For patients receiving care at home vs. in-clinic a significant challenge that must be overcome is proper training.
The presenters of this abstract have developed and launched training devices, Instructions For Use, and instructional videos to provide patients with the necessary training for success. HCPs typically have 15-20 minutes to onboard a patient. Lack of time paired with the nuances and differences of each device make it nearly impossible to provide effective training and onboarding. Patients that do receive training are still faced with the effects of the forgetting curve, where memory retention drops off over time.
