Trial to Test New TB Vaccine on HIV-infected People

A clinical trial led by the UK Medical Research Council in The Gambia, US-based Aeras, and the University of Oxford has begun to test the efficiency of a tuberculosis (TB) vaccine in people living with HIV in Senegal and South Africa.

The Phase 11b trial will test the vaccine in around 1400 adults aged 18-50 who are infected with HIV.

The vaccine is being developed by Aeras and the Oxford-Emergent Tuberculosis Consortium to help stop the spread of TB, the number one cause of death for people infected with HIV.
