Valeant Buys Oral Health Specialist OraPharma
Canadian drug maker Valeant has announced the acquisition of OraPharma.
Valeant Pharmaceuticals has signed an agreement to buy OraPharma, a specialty oral health company headquartered in Pennsylvania, US.
The Canadian drug maker has agreed to acquire the company from private equity firm Water Street Healthcare Partners for an upfront payment of $312 million, along with a possible $114 million in milestone payments.
The deal - which is expected to close this month (June 2012) - boosts Valeant's position in the field of oral health.
OraPharma's lead product is a locally administered antibiotic called Arestin, which is designed to treat adult periodontitis.
