West Pharmaceutical and Corning form landmark injectable drug delivery collaboration

The collaboration includes a multimillion-dollar investment to expand glass technology that will advance packaging and delivery systems

West Pharmaceutical Services and Corning have pooled their areas of expertise in a collaboration designed to advance patient safety and expand access to treatments.

By harnessing West's experience in injectable drug solutions and Corning's materials science expertise, the companies intend to enable advanced injectable drug packaging and delivery systems for the pharmaceutical industry.

Specifically, the collaboration, which includes the support of a multimillion-dollar investment, will combine West's NovaPure components with Daikyo Flurotec coating technology, and Corning's Valor Glass and Velocity Vials to provide innovative pharmaceutical packaging solutions to help bio-pharma producers navigate the complex regulatory environment and mitigate risk in bringing drugs to market.

Corning's Valor Glass can enable increased throughput and offers high chemical durability, strength, and damage resistance, thereby enhancing the storage and delivery of drugs ... which in turn, means more reliable access to essential modern medicines.

Wendell P. Weeks, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Corning, described the collaboration and the combined technology as a "win-win for customers and patients all over the world".
