Berry Global Bengaluru Site in India Celebrates 10 Year Safety Milestone
Berry Global Group, Inc. (NYSE:BERY) a leading producer of value-engineered protection materials with its Health, Hygiene, and Specialties (HH&S) division, can today announce its plant in Bengaluru, India, has achieved 10 years without a recordable safety incident.
Safety is one of the Company’s four core values, with an unrelenting focus on always advancing to prevent all work related injuries at more than 130 manufacturing sites worldwide. Within the HH&S division, specific safety initiatives include Behavior Based Safety (BBS) training, ‘red card’ alerts, near miss reporting, and the creation of site safety councils that represent every department and shift. Performance in Bengaluru, as is the case at all Berry locations around the globe, is measured against the highest safety standards in the industry and are consistent with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines*
This sustained focus on safety has yielded many improvements across Berry’s global footprint of facilities. On Monday, October 29th, employees at its site in Bengaluru, India, celebrated ten years without a recordable incident. This equates to more than five million working hours; which is ahead of industry averages. Bengaluru Plant Director Jasraj Singh said, "Safety is, and shall always remain, our number one priority. This achievement demonstrates my team’s relentless focus; they know that safety is non-negotiable.” Jasraj said a combination of factors had contributed to the landmark success. This includes the promotion of Safety Absolutes – a set of rules all 299 site employees must adhere to at all times. Specific processes for non-routine work have also helped lay the foundation for the site’s high-performance. Additional enhancements focusing on health and well-being and ergonomics are now in the planning stages. Achim Schalk, Vice President Operations - HH&S EMEIA, paid tribute to the Bengaluru team for the positive outcomes that can result from commitment and teamwork. He said: “Ten years without a recordable incident is a fantastic achievement. Our aspiration is to ‘strive to zero’ incidents; this is a real-life example and a motivation point for all of our facilities around the globe.” Mark Siebert, President – HH&S EMEIA, said: “This is an incredible milestone for the Bengaluru team, and for our company. We will now be transferring best practices from this success across our global business. Our company mission is ‘Always Advancing to Protect What’s Important.’ My thanks to the Bengaluru team for living that philosophy by protecting what is most important: our people.” ++ Berry Global measures recordable incidents in line with applicable OSHA guidance.
