Chitin

Heppe medical chitosan gmbh offers a wide range of products which includes chitin. Occurrence: it is a nitrogen-containing polysaccharide present in the monomeric building blocks beta-1,4 linked glycosidically. It is the same as the coupling of glucose to cellulose, chitin, however, at the hydroxyl group of the monomer is replaced by an acetylamino. The so stronger hydrogen bonding between adjacent polymers makes chitin harder and more stable than cellulose. Applications: it can be further processed into different derivatives: the two main substantially derivatives are chitosan and glucosamine. Contact us for more information.
