CPHI announces new collaboration with the Africa Pharmaceutical Summit

This new collaboration will enhance the mission to provide a comprehensive platform to enable the growth of a quality African pharmaceutical industry that competitively contributes to the healthcare needs of Africans.

CPHI has announced a new collaboration with the Africa Pharmaceutical Summit (APS), the leading international summit and exhibition series in Africa.

CPHI, a portfolio of global pharmaceutical events organised by UBM EMEA, brings together more than 100,000 pharmaceutical professionals each year in eight events around the world. CPHI's events are a meeting point to network and to drive growth & innovation at every step of the global pharmaceutical supply chain from drug discovery to finished dosage.

Established in September 2013 and organised by PharmaAfrica, the APS integrates three elements — Exhibition, Summit and Partnering — into a single platform that has become the central hub within the region for pharmaceutical executives to connect, build relationships and enhance their business opportunities.

Africa has been cited as possibly the only pharmaceutical market where genuinely high growth is still achievable. About 80% of incremental generic growth is expected to come from countries with underdeveloped generics markets including Africa, and the region's pharmaceutical market itself is expected to reach $40 billion by 2020 (Espicom; Evaluate; McKinsey & Co. Analysis).

There is a clear momentum in Africa for the development of the pharmaceutical industry. The pharma market in particular, has seen the benefits of the continent's expanding economy and with increased Government investments in healthcare, it is expected that the African pharmaceutical industry will see a sustained period of expansion over the next few years.

This new collaboration will enhance the mission to provide a comprehensive platform to enable the growth of a quality African pharmaceutical industry that competitively contributes to the healthcare needs of Africans.

"We are delighted to partner with CPHI. This partnership means that with the combination of our strengths, together, CPHI and APS are better able to provide a route into, and serve our respective and common partners in the growing African markets", said Miles Mudzviti, Founder & CEO of PharmaAfrica.

The 3rd APS will take place at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya on 24 and 25 February 2016 . Recognizing the importance of accounting for sub-region specific dialogue, APS has been held each year in a different African country, rotating among the sub-regions with the first edition in Hammamet, Tunisia (North Africa) in September 2013 and the second in Accra, Ghana (West Africa) in February 2015. Following the 3rd APS in Nairobi, Kenya (East Africa) in February 2016, APS East will subsequently be held each February in Nairobi. APS West will make a return to West Africa, 6 - 7 September 2016 at the Eko Hotel & Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.

The APS East has the support of The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development, Kenya who will be providing their vital perspectives directly into the summit programme. Exhibition visitors will not only benefit from a free pass to the exhibition hall, but also a co-located conference which aims to build the technical content and knowledge sharing within the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. Registration to the APS East is open.
