FIS joins Energize

Energize is the international programme discussed at COP27 that aims to promote the use of renewable energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector.

Montecchio Maggiore (VI), Italy - 14 October 2022

FIS announces today that it has joined Energize, the international programme launched in 2021 to promote access to renewable energy and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector.

The programme is coordinated by Schneider Electric with the support of some of the major global pharmaceutical groups. Schneider Electric, an international advisor whose aim is to enable everyone to make the best use of energy and resources by combining progress and sustainability, announced at COP27 the main highlights of the project, which involves several companies in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector.

Thanks to this unique programme, the energy needs of several participating companies will be met through the construction of a new renewable energy plant. The supply will be managed through a multi-year bilateral contract (VPPA), whereby the companies will be provided with the appropriate certificates to guarantee the green origin of the energy.

Since 2017, FIS has published an annual Sustainability Report, produced in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) international guidelines.

In 2022 FIS issued a Sustainability Linked Bond, with a value of 350 million euros on expiry in 2027, which was also highly successful among international investors.

Michele Gavino, CEO of F.I.S. - Fabbrica Italiana Sintetici S.p.A. commented: 'We are proud to make our contribution to a project that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the development of new renewable energy sources. We would like to thank the companies in our sector that have supported this initiative, with whom we will continue to collaborate to share useful solutions to further reduce the environmental footprint".
