India Could Become Biopharma Innovation Hub, Report Suggests

A report has highlighted India's potential in the biopharmaceutical industry.

India has the potential to become a real innovation hub for the biopharmaceutical industry, according to a new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

However, the nation will need supportive policies to make the most of the opportunities presented by its unique capabilities in genomic databases, translational research and nanotechnology.

This must include the introduction of guidelines, streamlining of processes and greater investment in infrastructure, according to the report, which is due to be presented at the US-India BioPharma and Healthcare Summit in Boston later this week.

Karun Rishi, president of the USA-India Chamber of Commerce, told the Economic Times: "The Indian government has
