Northern Ireland Scientists Develop Tumour Killing Drug

The drug prevents the growth of blood vessels in tumours, thus starving them of oxygen and nutrients, rather than attacking them directly.

Scientists at the Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, have discovered a new way of killing tumours. The University's School of Pharmacy, along with researchers from Almac Discovery, has developed a drug to treat tumours which don’t respond to or are resistant to current therapies.

 

The drug, which will undergo clinical trials with the next year, prevents the growth of blood vessels in tumours, thus starving them of oxygen and nutrients, rather than attacking them directly.
