Pharma Companies Team up with Academic Institutions for TB Drug Discovery

The TBDA partnership aims to produce new clinical drug candidates with the potential to treat TB within a month.

Seven pharmaceutical companies have agreed to partner with four research institutions to accelerate the discovery of new treatments for tuberculosis (TB).

 

The participating pharmaceutical companies include Abbott, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck and Sanofi, which will share information from their compound libraries with each other and with academics.

 

The four academic institutions involved in the TB Drug Accelerator (TBDA) partnership are: the Infectious Disease Research Institute; the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Texas A&M University; and Weill Cornell Medical College.
