PharmaMar utilising technology to speed up clinical trials

The company will use clinical data management services from Medidata Solutions.

A Spanish biopharmaceutical company has signed a new contract to receive clinical data management support from Medidata Solutions.

PharmaMar will also utilise electronic data capture and medical coding solutions from the company in order to accelerate trials for its marine-based oncology drugs.

The firm specialises in the development of anti-tumour treatments that are derived from marine sources and can be used in the treatment of cancer and rare diseases.

Medidata's solutions will replace the existing paper-based clinical trial processes in place at PharmaMar, leading to an anticipated jump in productivity throughout the process of testing drug treatments.

"Our sites in Europe and the US recommended Medidata for its ease of use," said Dr Arturo Soto, clinical development director at PharmaMar.

"Medidata has proven to be a collaborative partner working tirelessly with us to help us efficiently meet the challenges of our complex oncology clinical trials."

Replacing paper-based operations is a major undertaking for PharmaMar because of the extent of its operations. The company owns over 1,800 patents issued or in process for its various drug formulations.
