Ranbaxy Launches Generic Version of Pfizer's Caduet

Ranbaxy struck a deal with Pfizer that allows it to sell a generic version of Caduet before the patents supporting the drug expire.

Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. said Tuesday that it is now selling an authorized generic version of Pfizer's drug Caduet, a treatment for high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

In September Ranbaxy struck a deal with Pfizer that allows it to sell a generic version of Caduet before the patents supporting the drug expire.

Caduet is a combination of the cholesterol drug Lipitor and the blood pressure drug Norvasc, and it is marketed by Pfizer Inc. Ranbaxy said U.S. sales totaled $339 million over the year ended in September.

Ranbaxy is now selling its own generic version of Lipitor which lost U.S. patent protection on Nov. 30.
