Takeda to Expand Presence in Brazil with Multilab Acquisition
Japan-based Takeda is to acquire Brazil's Multilab in an all-cash deal.
Takeda Pharmaceutical Co has announced that it plans to acquire Brazilian drugmaker Multilab Industria e Comercio de Produtos Farmaceuticos Ltd.
The two companies have signed an agreement whereby the Japan-based firm will buy the Brazilian outfit for an upfront payment of 500 million Brazilian reals (US$ 252 million), in addition to up to BRL 40 million ($20 million) in future milestone payments.
As a result of the transaction, which is expected to be finalised by the end of the second quarter of the fiscal year, Takeda will greatly expand its presence in this important emerging market.
