Calcitriol

Calcitriol is a HPAI Vitamin D3 Derivative prescribed for osteoporosis, hyperparathyroidism, renal osteodistrophy and psoriasis.

Calcitriol is the hormonally active metabolite of Vitamin D and is normally prescribed in cases of: calcium malabsorption, hypoparathyroidism, rickets, osteoporosis, renal osteodistrophy and osteomalacia.
It also carries out other functions such as cell differentiating and immune modulating activity. It is therefore recommended for the treatment of hyperparatyroidism, psoriasis, some autoimmune diseases and certain cancer types.

USE
Vitamin D3 is a prohormone produced in skin through ultraviolet irradiation of 7-dehydrocholesterol. It is biologically inert and must be metabolized to 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 in the liver and then to 1a,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (=Calcitriol) in the kidney in order to exert its function. Calcitriol carries out many functions: calcium absorption, phosphate absorption in the intestine, calcium mobilization in bone and calcium reabsorption in the kidney.

Calcitriol is typically used for calcium malabsorption, rickets, osteoporosis, renal osteodistrophy and osteomalacia.
Calcitriol exerts also other functions such as cell differentiating and immunomodulating activity. Therefore Calcitriol is also prescribed for treating hyperparatyroidism, psoriasis, some autoimmune diseases and certain types of cancer (with strict dosage control).
