Mergers & Acquisitions Activity 'Lower Than Expected' in 2011

The latest report from BioWorld reveals that M&A activity was more subdued than expected in 2011, while the number of biopharmaceutical collaborations declined.

There were more mergers and acquisitions (M&As) among biopharmaceutical companies in 2011 than in 2010, but activity was still weaker than expected, a new report suggests.

 

The 'BioWorld Biotechnology State of the Industry Report 2012' reveals that M&A activity increased in 2011, with the value of deals also rising.

 

But industry observers had been anticipating a greater number of deals than actually materialised.

 

Jennifer Boggs, managing editor of BioWorld, suggested that last year's activity came across a backdrop of "slower-than-expected M&A trends in 2010".
