  • News HYGROSCOPIC PHARMACEUTICALS

Hygroscopic Pharmaceuticals: when the technical function of packaging comes into play

When formulated into use friendly forms, certain pharmaceutical substances have hygroscopic characteristics, which make pills or capsules suffer from aggressions from ambient humidity. This behaviour is both well-known and very relevant, when choosing how to market these products.

Hygroscopic drugs absorb water from the air, which may cause their condition to change, by oxidation or agglutination, which can diminish the therapeutic effect of said drugs. While these changes are usually visible, such as with discoloration or colour, they can mean troublesome news for market performance of a product, if they are not prevented. Furthermore, ambient conditions usually change from one geographical market to another, which means that, when planning to market your products to different regions, you need to plan ahead and prevent mishaps related to localisation.

To an extent, while most finished forms of said medicines already include drying agents, using specific packaging is somewhat mandatory. Maintaining these pharmaceuticals in pristine condition, even after the product has been exposed to a regular environment, is a critical technical function of packaging.

    Neutroplast, your packaging solutions provider

Packaging for hygroscopic pharmaceuticals must abide to your own manufacturing, process and marketing conditions, which is why Neutroplast offers a fully integrated Pill Bottle line solution for your humidity sensitive products. Furthering that goal, we combine the use of silica solutions with the caps of our bottles, which use a time proven combination of desiccant and bottle volume.

It is worth noting that other ways to safeguard your product, such as desiccant pouches, can damage your products’ integrity, by excessively drying the formulation. This can have a disaggregating effect, while our packaging solution, on the contrary, allows for extended shelf-life and product stability, while preventing the hazards of continuous contact of desiccants with your product.

The compatibility of our models is why we have a proven track record on hygroscopic medicines packaging, on very diverse markets, from Europe to the Maghreb or the Middle East. Contact us today @ www.neutroplast.com and learn how we can safeguard your sensitive products.

  • News NEUTROPLAST DATA ANALYSIS

Neutroplast Data Analysis: Finetuning Customer Experience

As you might know, from previous news from us, 2020 was a year of deep investment for Neutroplast. Following that initiative, we are now on the process of finetuning customer experience. The way that comes to fruition isn’t solely connected to the personal approach you know us for. As a matter of fact, data analysis and informed decision making is the path we want you to feel our focus on your projects.

Building upon already collected data from our earlier systems, now expanded and more thorough, we have designed an array of performance indicators that spans through all our departments. Diverse aspects of our activity, like the quality and speed of our replies, productive performance and product quality, waste produced, energy consumed or staff motivation and performance, have been integrated in a global analysis system that focus on data quality and indicator accuracy and purpose, to provide you, our customer, with a better and evolving customer experience.

The upgrades to our facilities and machinery are, thus, intertwined with high performance, reliable, accurate and on-demand indicators. The end result is a customer experience that allows for our customers to not only purchase high quality packaging and medical devices, but to also have quick access and solid knowledge over the processes of its production.

The power of intelligence, recorded data and sectorial know-how

The uses of solid data analysis are many, even more so on a high-performance business, like pharmaceutical plastic packaging production. While some of this employing of intelligence and recorded data is fundamental, but very straight-forward, like calculating production, energy and waste ratios, there are improvements that need a different approach. At Neutroplast, due to the massive amounts of data produced, we use specialized software to filter out the noise and establish alerts, which is integrated with powerful data analysis tools. The result has been one of learning and quick adaptation to circumstances, while at the same time, the system allows us to prevent issues throughout processes and predict the outcomes of our actions.

We have a firm belief that we are paving the way for leaner, more efficient production, built upon data analysis. The outcome of these policies are better products for your product lines and a more knowledgeable customer experience. Contact us today, at [email protected], to get to know how we can change the way you perceive your products packaging.

  • News A Circular Economy and it's Importance to National & European Economies

Neutroplast is a plastic packaging producer whose main focus is supplying the pharmaceutical industry. The company has been present in the market for over twenty-five years and is a prominent player in the Portuguese pharmaceutical industry landscape. Over time, it has constantly strived to develop a sector that is vital for our society in partnership with pharmaceutical companies, universities, research hubs, industry associations, and other stakeholders.

  • News NEUTROPLAST RECEIVES ECOVADIS BRONZE MEDAL

We have recently received the EcoVadis Bronze Medal, a reward for a continuous and extensive transformation occurring at Neutroplast, which aims to make our company a symbol in sustainable pharmaceutical packaging manufacturing. EcoVadis is an international network that is effectively having an impact on sustainability, by channelling companies’ performance throughout global supply chains and by providing ratings and intelligence, to leverage commercial relationships and promote sustainable behaviours.

By adhering to EcoVadis, we are actively placing ourselves as part of global supply chains which are enablers for buying organizations to create a real-world impact on the communities they support.  By improving our own environmental and ethical practices, and by having our own suppliers be a part of that change, we promote sustainability practices throughout our scope of action, but, in practice, what does that mean to our customers, suppliers and, finally, to the world?

Neutroplast was evaluated on different levels, ranging from environmental performance, ethics, labour and human rights, to sustainable procurement. With current developments on circular economy and the plastics industry taking a turn towards dealing with environmental impact at a post-consumer level, the measures we are implementing and how we are reaching our sustainability goals, through a global market approach, provide guidance for the supply chains and communities we are part of. At this time, we feel the results of our actions signal we are going in the right direction and to that extent, our current rating, is already a tangible result of those efforts, and that is why we expect to even improve our rating, in the coming months.

Brick by brick: building an environmental stronghold

You have probably been following how, for the past year, we have significantly increased the scope and breadth of our actions on sustainability. We have pushed for creating awareness among our colleagues and stakeholders, established partnerships to further our environmental goals and paired these efforts with an intense updating of company policies and productive processes. The list of measures is long: from promoting circular economy through education and research projects to locally improving environmental performance, our strategy has changed or introduced hundreds of elements in our processes, our procurement and our relations with our stakeholders and community.

This path has taken us close to fully eradicate disposable plastics on our production site, to engage in multiple national and international research projects focused on improving the plastics industry footprint and to develop and update product lines to have a lesser impact and behave better in recycling processes. In the coming months, many of these steps will come into fruition, so keep us on your radar, to discover how we are working to create a sustainable plastics industry. And, of course, you can always contact us through our website or at [email protected]!

  • News CANNABIS PACKAGING SUPPLIERS

Cannabis Packaging Suppliers: Neutroplast checks all marks!
Cannabis products are an emerging market throughout Europe and North America, but producers have found similarities in other markets, namely Pharma. One of the aspects this fact is most relevant is when it comes to primary packaging and the common requirements between these products. In reality, demanding product specifications and regulatory compliance is something pharmaceutical packaging suppliers are accustomed to.

Cannabis, in most forms, needs packaging that is UV light resistant, has inbuilt ways to deal with oxygen and strong barrier properties to avoid humidity and odour transfer. Regulatory factors are a similarly obvious link between cannabis and pharmaceutical packaging. Pharma grade lack of contamination, GMP production standards and the need for child-resistant packaging and measurement devices bring these two worlds closer in packaging needs.

PE and PP bottles are, in the current market, one of the most effective solutions to address these issues and Neutroplast, as a dedicated pharmaceutical packaging producer, checks all marks needed for the best cannabis primary packaging. From time tested plastic bottle packaging to oxygen solutions integration, along with fully certified GMP compliant production facilities, our products are the perfect solution for cannabis primary packaging.

Join us in changing the world, one bottle at a time

Finding the ideal packaging for your product is mandatory for that product’s success. However, on our current world, it is sometimes not enough. This is why we do not stop there and, as our customers are well aware, we rank among the top socially and ecologically conscious companies in the market.

In fact, sustainability has been our goal for a few years now, and the results are now evident. We rank high in several corporate environmental and ethics ratings and our products and facilities are permanently being upgraded to reflect innovations that can lessen the impact our packaging products have. Likewise, we are a community driven company, focused on improving the quality of life of the communities we are connected to, namely on our Portugal facilities, where we have an on-going policy to improve the development conditions of the populations that surround us.

We believe it is not enough to just design, produce and market products and that, mostly, companies have a pivotal role in the development of those they interact with. In reality, when buying from us, you are not just getting a high quality, low environment impact packaging solution: you are, in fact, taking part in a real-world solutions business, moved by corporate responsibility across all spectrum of our activity.

Contact us to find out how to get a best-in-class packaging solution for your cannabis products and find out how you too can be a part of a steady change into the markets of the future. • News NEUTROPLAST ACQUIRES BEYONDEVICES

Recently, Neutroplast concluded the acquisition of BeyonDevices, a technology transfer company which has developed a promising portfolio of breakthrough technology in the Pharmaceutical Primary Packaging, Medical Technology and Devices industries.

The innovative processes at BeyonDevices, which have made it a renowned product development specialist, have their most visible results in the EasyGyn medical device for women?s health and the GLORIA smart-packaging project, which aims to bring the Internet of Things to the use of pharmaceutical drugs on our everyday life. Now, these products will be available for fully proprietary scale-up by Neutroplast, but there is more to this acquisition than simply extending our product range.

    A step further for Innovation

BeyonDevices was originally a spin-off of Neutroplast, and the integration of new technologies will advance our current product range with exciting new products, but the synergies generated by the deal go further than product development.  In fact, BeyonDevices has created significant momentum in the European R&D landscape, partnering in multiple cooperation projects as a technology developer and consultant, which means that, by bringing BeyonDevices back to its core business, Neutroplast?s is integrating not only new technologies but specifically strengthening its Innovation and Development capacities, in markets which are its core business.

In sum, today the future of R&D looks bright at Neutroplast, and having BeyonDevices in our fold has only made it shine brighter, as Neutroplast?s next developments will be, now more than ever, a source of Pharmaceutical Packaging Industry breakthroughs.

  • News ISO 14001

The latest Neutroplast certification: ISO 14001

Environmental impact and related productive performance have been areas of focus in the last years, at Neutroplast, so it might come as a surprise that we hadn’t followed the ISO 14001 certification route yet. Actually, upholding environmental legislation and acting on our impact has been a part of our core business for years, which is the reason we had no flaws on our first certification attempt. This environmental impact performance system, which goes through the use of water resources, waste and energy consumption, core areas of our environmental footprint, were already under the required legal obligations, so why did we choose to integrate another norm?

Systematic control, for one! Using the ISO 14001 norm as tool, we are now able to act with certified quality information and evidence-based documentation, allowing for the detection of possible flaws, improvements and upgrades in a systematic way, through process monitoring and characterization. This way, we can easily go further than meeting required legal objectives and create the means for operating improvements in a continuous and effective way.

Also, traditionally, Neutroplast has relied on standardized norms to improve its business and operations. ISO 9001, for example, has been an evolving system for our past 20 years. Integrating a new norm with such a tested, proven and familiar system to our company, guarantees a seamless process of taking a systematic approach to the environment, from system design to operation workflow, data analysis and decision making.

But what is be to expected now from an environmentally certified Neutroplast?

Besides the previously referred upgrade to our monitoring, evaluation and processes characterization, the ISO 14001 will allow for the integration of new projects on a company wide scale, with minimum attrition. Ambitious goals, like our Zero Waste program, maintaining Pharma grade product quality while reintegrating plastic waste on our production processes, product redesigning to allow for product lines with reduced raw-materials use and the packaging production with easily recyclable mono-materials come to mind, when thinking how a streamlined processual system will help in achieving our objectives.

We knew the starting point would always be the environmental impact evaluation of our processes, but now we can monitor those indicators through a controlled system and thus improve the conditions subjacent to that impact. In the end, the ISO 14001 norm did not force us have a reduced environmental impact, but its cross-organization extent is helping us, extensively, to further our environmental objectives.

Of course, our products are only as environmentally proactive as the supply chains we are part of, and that is why we invite you to contact us [email protected], to find out all the benefits we can provide to the green supplying of your products!

  • News PLASTIC PACT - ROADMAP 2025

Neutroplast has joined the Portuguese Plastics Pact, a movement that has a shared approach to plastic in Portugal. By adopting the principles of a circular economy, the pact intends to convert materials, preventing them from becoming waste or pollution.

The 2025 Objectives of the Portuguese Plastics Pact are ambitious but certainly achievable if everyone is diligent and takes their role seriously. Thus, we hope that the collective effort will result in the following:

Ensuring that 70% or more of plastic packaging is recycled properly by increasing collection and recycling;Incorporating an average of 30% recycled plastic in new plastic packaging;Ensuring that 100% of plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable;Promoting consumer awareness and education activities (current and future) for the circular use of plastic;By 2020, setting out a list of single-use plastics considered problematic or unnecessary and set out measures for their elimination through redesign, innovation, or alternative delivery models (reuse).

The circular economy model, supported by the transition to renewable energy sources, creates economic, social, and natural capital, based on three basic principles: eliminating waste and pollution at the outset, conserving products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems.

This initiative has been rolled out in nine countries and, through the involvement of local organizations and in bringing together governments, companies, and citizens, it aims to adopt collective goals in order to enable the sharing of experiences, knowledge, solutions, and good practices amongst its members. The result is the promotion of a quick transition to a more circular economy when it comes to plastic, taking important steps to reduce waste right the way through from its origins to the final product, preserving the value of this material in the economy, and preventing it from ending up in nature.

By signing up to this initiative, Neutroplast is committed to developing individual and collective efforts to achieve a set of goals, which the company should do by 2025. Keep an eye on our social networks over the coming weeks: we are going to set out the goals that we intend to achieve in line with Roadmap 2025!!
