MasterSeal M 689 — new waterproofing solutions for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries
High elasticity and crack bridging ensure durability of the membrane even in contact with unstable substrates.
In chemical and pharmaceutical industries, environmentally hazardous chemicals and liquids are frequently an indispensable part of the production process. They require special measures for safe storage and handling. In addition, to prevent pollution of soil and water, secondary containment is required by national laws to control eventual liquid spillages to protect the environment. Especially for this purpose Master Builders Solutions by BASF offers waterproofing solutions also for complex industrial structures.
Secondary containment is theoretically only used when accidental spillage takes place but, in practice, minor quantities of chemicals often escape from valves, connections, joints, etc. These chemicals damage concrete structures and floors and can penetrate into soil causing, in some cases, severe contaminations. When waterproofing capabilities have to be complemented by resistance to chemicals solved in water, special resin based membranes are the best choice as they combine continuous, seamless and crack-bridging waterproofing properties with high chemical resistance.
MasterSeal M 689 combines this high chemical resistance to a wide range of chemicals with an outstanding elasticity and toughness ensuring long term durability of the membrane, even exposed to the most demanding situations. In addition, MasterSeal M 689 has high mechanical resistance, so it can even be used in storage areas with regular traffic. With high elastic and chemical resistance waterproofing membranes such as MasterSeal M 689, secondary containment facilities, basins, pipeline bridges or trafficked impounding basins, are long term protected and any leakage stopped before it reaches soil or groundwater.
MasterSeal M 689 shows high crack bridging capacities, both static (Class A5 according EN 1504 part 2) and dynamic (Class B4.2 according EN 1504 part 2) even at temperatures below zero. In addition, long-term chemical resistance to the exposure to a wide range of different agents even under pressure is proven and documented (Class III according EN 13529). That is why MasterSeal M 689 also fulfils the requirements of the German Wasser-Haushalts-Gesetz (WHG) for the use in so-called LAU (German: Lagern/ Abfüllen/ Umschlagen; English: Storage/ Filling/ Handling) areas in industrial environments.
