New Non-PFAS Low Retention Additive for Pipette Tips
Avient's new Mevopur™ non-PFAS low-retention additive enables excellent fluid release from pipette tips
Avient’s new non-PFAS low retention compound helps achieve
high fluid release from pipette tips with its efficient non-fluorinated hydrophobic
system, supporting accurate and consistent test results. This ready-to-use
solution is manufactured under a holistic change control program to reduce the
risk of performance and quality issues.
Avient Corporation, an innovator of materials solutions,
launched its latest Mevopur™ Healthcare Functional Additive on November 14,
2025: a non-PFAS, low-retention compound for pipette tips.
Avient’s Mevopur portfolio includes performance and
processing-enhancing additives that can reduce friction, improve clarity,
enable laser marking and welding, and offer protection against ultraviolet (UV)
light, oxidation, and gamma and/or e-beam sterilization. The new, low-retention
materials solution, formulated without intentionally added per- and
polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), slip agents, plasticizers, or biocides, can
be used to enable excellent fluid release from polypropylene pipette tips in scientific
and medical laboratory settings.
Available as a ready-to-use compound, this low-retention additive solution
eliminates the need for secondary low-retention coatings and can be adapted to
customer requirements. It can also withstand typical electron-beam and gamma
radiation sterilization doses applied to pipettes (usually up to 15 kGy) with
fast recovery of hydrophobicity post-radiation. Additionally, its raw materials
are pre-tested to ISO, USP, and ICH Q3D protocols for manufacturers who wish to
use medical-grade materials for their pipette tips.
“This non-PFAS low retention additive technology not only delivers effective
hydrophobicity without fluorinated substances; it’s also developed and
manufactured under a holistic change control program. This can help to reduce
the risk of performance and quality issues that could occur from changes in raw
materials and manufacturing process,” says Volker Dickfeld, Senior Marketing
Manager Healthcare Global for Color & Additives at Avient.
