FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dar es Salaam,  Tanzania will take part in CPHI Milan 2026, the world's largest pharmaceutical trade fair, which runs from 6 to 8 October at Fiera Milano in Italy. The country's delegation will be led by Mr. Emmanuel Tayari, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices in the Ministry of Health.

The fair brings together more than 2,400 companies and some 62,000 visitors from over 160 countries every year, covering everything from raw pharmaceutical ingredients to finished medicines, vaccines, machinery and packaging. For Tanzania, it is a chance to sit across the table from the manufacturers and investors the country wants to attract.

The Government has made local pharmaceutical manufacturing a national priority. A special economic zone dedicated to pharmaceutical production has been established at Mloganzila in Dar es Salaam, and the Ministry of Health, through its Pharmaceutical Investment Acceleration Taskforce, has been working to shorten the road for serious investors — from land allocation to licensing and regulatory approval.

"We are not going to Milan to hand out brochures,. "We are going to  attract and negotiate win win deals. Tanzania has the land, the market and the political will. Any manufacturer looking at Africa seriously should be talking to us."

He pointed out that a company producing in Tanzania is not producing for Tanzania alone. Through the East African Community and SADC, manufacturers gain access to a regional market of over 500 million people, while the Medical Stores Department, which hosts the SADC pooled procurement mechanism, offers a direct route into public supply chains across the region.

The delegation has lined up meetings with pharmaceutical companies, equipment suppliers and investors over the three days of the fair. The timing is deliberate: with Universal Health Insurance being rolled out at home, demand for medicines in Tanzania is set to grow substantially in the coming years.
