Calcium Polycarbophil

A mixture of sodium estrone sulfate and sodium equilin sulfate, primarily isolated from pregnant mare urine.

Description: A selective serotonin (5-HT2A) receptor antagonist with weak adrenergic receptor blocking properties. The drug exists as a solid, is well-tolerated, and is particularly effective in older patients for lowering blood pressure in essential hypertension.

It is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a direct agonist at alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors.

It is the sulfate salt of a kind of polymyxin, a substance produced by the growth of Bacillus polymyxa (Prazmowski) Migula (Fam. Bacillaceae), or a mixture of two or more such salts.
