Liraglutide in a once-a-day injectable Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 agonist (GLP-1 agonist) used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is an incretin mimetic stimulating the release and synthesis of insulin into the blood by the intestine in response to food. It is only active in the presence of high circulating glucose levels. It also slows the passage of food through the gut and reduces appetite.
