Omyapharm^® Functionalized Calcium Carbonate (FCC) is a newly developed pharmaceutical excipients platform from Omya that can be used in both orally dispersible granules (ODGs) and orally dispersible tablets (ODTs).

It offers an extremely fast disintegration time and has a high API loading capability. Omyapharm^® ODGs can be directly compressed into tablets that disintegrate in less than 10 seconds. FCC is manufactured from high purity calcium carbonate, which undergoes a surface recrystallization process. During dry granulation or tableting, FCC’s external lamellae interlock to provide a large number of contact points, resulting in greater mechanical strength at lower compression pressures than other currently available excipients. In turn, the porosity of the granules and tablets is preserved, enabling faster water uptake and delivering a disintegration time that’s twice as fast as the market reference product.
