Industry Webinar Designing for Sustainability: The Overlooked Role of Packaging in Sorbent Performance
Whether it’s for compliance, functionality, protection, or aesthetics, the packaging used for products play a critical role in determining how much sorbent is needed for oxygen, moisture, and/or volatile adsorption and control. The materials of construction are essential in influencing the amount of gas transmission over time; what might seem like the best aesthetic choice for packaging may not always be the most appropriate for limiting specific gas transmission.
There is often a trade-off between packaging materials, processing, and design—one that is best evaluated through a cost-benefit analysis. Should you select a multi-layer film and use less sorbent, or opt for a more conventional, lower-cost film and use more sorbent? Is a thick-walled HDPE bottle worth the additional cost compared to a standard wall-thickness bottle? Should you use a bottle with a passive oxygen barrier that may raise recyclability concerns, or go with a more standardized bottle?
Multisorb can assist with evaluating your sustainable packaging options and determining the most effective sorbent solution for your product.
