Schott to expand pharmaceutical packaging manufacturing in Russia

German company Schott has announced plans to increase its production capacity in Russia by more than 50 per cent.

Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging has revealed plans to increase production capacity at its Russian plant in Zavolzhe.

The German company intends to boost capacity by more than 50 per cent in a move that should benefit its customers, according to Professor Udo Ungeheuer, chairman of the board of management at Schott AG.

Commenting on the announcement, which was made at a trade fair in Moscow, he said: "We are seeing continued growth in demand for locally manufactured primary packaging that also meets all of the international standards for quality.

"This will result in shorter delivery routes and better export opportunities for our customers."

The professor added that the strategy would help Schott's customers in the Russian pharmaceutical industry to achieve their own growth and quality objectives.

Schott was the first international manufacturer to open a new 'Good Manufacturing Practice'-compliant pharmaceutical packaging plant in Russia and has enjoyed significant success since doing so in spring 2011.
