UK to change patent laws to attract clinical trials

The UK government intends to take steps to attract drug research and development projects back to the UK.

The Government is preparing to take action to attract drug research projects back to the UK by ensuring that patent laws are consistent with those in most other EU member states, according to Withers & Rogers – one of the UK’s leading firms of patent and trade mark attorneys.

David Willetts, science minister, is expected to announce amendments to existing patent laws including special exemptions for clinical trials from infringement actions later this year.
