Carbocisteine Now Available in Sachets

To date, Carbocisteine has only been available in two formats: capsules and bottled liquid. Intrapharm Laboratories is delighted to announce that from the 1st September it will be available in a 10-mL sachet containing 750 mg Carbocisteine.

This mucolytic is indicated for children over 15 years of age and adults with recent respiratory disorders and expectoration difficulties.

Carbocisteine is usually prescribed for people with a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD); e.g., chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis and emphysema.

A main benefit to using the sachets format is that a patient only requires 3 sachets a day compared with the traditional 6 large capsules or 9 teaspoons of liquid. For some elderly patients and for those that struggle to swallow capsules, the sachets offer a much more user friendly presentation, as well as ensuring the patient is taking the correct dose.

Carbocisteine sachets are the most cost-effective option for the NHS as they are 10% less expensive than capsules and 27% less expensive than the bottle.
