Barbados Pharmaceutical Inc.

About Barbados Pharmaceutical Inc.

Barbados Pharmaceutical Inc. was established by the Government of Barbados to develop the pharmaceutical ecosystem needed to attract investment, build local manufacturing capacity, and position Barbados as a production and distribution hub for CARICOM and the Global South. Our mandate: close the access gap that the COVID-19 pandemic made impossible to ignore. By 2035, Barbados will be a trusted regional hub for high-quality pharmaceutical manufacturing, life sciences innovation, and regulatory excellence. At CPHI we are looking to connect with manufacturers, CDMOs, API producers, and investors ready to be part of that build.

  • Caribbean Natural Products and Marine Bioactives, Barbados

Product Caribbean Natural Products and Marine Bioactives, Barbados

The Caribbean has an ethnopharmacological tradition and a marine environment that between them represent an underworked source of natural product candidates.

BPI's national sector strategy identifies evidence-based traditional and natural products as a long term opportunity area, coverin...
  • CARICOM Market Access and Regulatory Pathway

Product CARICOM Market Access and Regulatory Pathway

CARICOM is a set of markets with no single registration route. Manufacturers who could serve the region often do not, because the pathway is unclear and no one market justifies the effort on its own.

Barbados is building national regulatory capability, and regional review is available th...
  • Digital Systems Partnership for a New GMP Facility, Barbados

Product Digital Systems Partnership for a New GMP Facility, Barbados

Most pharmaceutical digital projects are retrofits onto plants that were running before the systems arrived. Barbados is specifying its stack before the facility exists. BPI's national sector strategy sets a digital systems stack of LIMS, ERP and eDMS, compliant with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex...
  • Pharmaceutical Development Base, Barbados

    Product Pharmaceutical Development Base, Barbados

Place your generic development work in Barbados: stability testing, bioequivalence and reformulation. IP income is taxed at 4.5 per cent, and development spend carries a 50 per cent R&D credit and a 25 per cent productivity and innovation credit.

Barbados sits in ICH Zone IVb. That matters...

  • Pharmacovigilance and Post-Market Surveillance, Caribbean

Product Pharmacovigilance and Post-Market Surveillance, Caribbean

Manufacturers selling into Caribbean markets carry pharmacovigilance and post-market surveillance obligations, with very little capacity in the region to meet them.

Barbados holds genomic sequencing and molecular diagnostics capacity at the Barbados Living Laboratory, launched at the Best-do...
  • Regional Bioequivalence Centre for CARICOM, Barbados

Product Regional Bioequivalence Centre for CARICOM, Barbados

Generic manufacturers registering into CARICOM run their bioequivalence studies outside the region or through a small number of bridging facilities elsewhere in the Caribbean. Either route adds cost and schedule to every submission, with in vivo studies running to six figures per product.

  • Regional Distribution and Supply into CARICOM

Product Regional Distribution and Supply into CARICOM

CARICOM is a set of small markets that most manufacturers treat as not worth serving one country at a time. Aggregated, the demand is real, and the Eastern Caribbean is reached from Barbados.

PAHO operates its regional public health hub for the Eastern Caribbean from Barbados.

  • Route to Market: CARICOM and Regional Public Procurement

Product Route to Market: CARICOM and Regional Public Procurement

CARICOM is fifteen markets and most manufacturers skip it, because no single one justifies a registration on its own.

CARPHA's Caribbean Regulatory System reviews a dossier once for the region, which cuts the work per market without removing the national step. Two buyers carry the volume: the ...
  • Stability Testing, ICH Zone IVb (30°C / 75% RH), Barbados

Product Stability Testing, ICH Zone IVb (30°C / 75% RH), Barbados

Products registered across the Caribbean, Brazil, India and the ASEAN markets require stability data generated at ICH Zone IVb conditions, 30°C ±2°C and 75% relative humidity ±5%. Data from a European laboratory at 25°C and 60% RH will not satisfy those regulators.

    Barbados sits in Zone I...
  • Sterile Manufacturing Partnership, Barbados

    Product Sterile Manufacturing Partnership, Barbados

BPI's joint venture with AMA delivered its first shipment of intravenous solutions to Barbados in March 2026, imported from Nigeria while local manufacturing is built. This would be the first sterile capability in the country.

BPI holds the national pharmaceutical sector strategy...
