Discover how ICE Pharma’s sustainability strategy translates into actions at CPHI Barcelona 2023

ICE Pharma shows how innovative solutions can make a real difference on the environment during CPHI Barcelona 2023.

ICE Pharma is a global leader in the creation of drug treatments derived from biliary acids. To create long-term value and build resilience into the business, the company has developed its sustainability strategy around the four following priority areas with clear targets and commitments.

These areas cover essential aspects of ESG within the company’s value chain, influencing its ability to create value for its stakeholders.

1. Fighting Illness through Product Innovation: ICE Pharma is dedicated to pioneering new solutions to combat diseases, making a positive impact on healthcare.

2. Caring for People: people are at the heart of our mission. The company invests in their growth, well-being, and diversity.

3. Accelerating Sustainable Operations: ICE Pharma is committed to minimising its environmental footprint and enhancing energy efficiency, ensuring a healthier planet.

4. Building Strong Relationships: Collaborative partnerships are key to our success. ICE Pharma values trust and transparency in its network.

ICE Pharma is at the forefront of biliary acids research, enabling the transformation of bile, a natural by-product of animals, into active ingredients for some of the world’s most essential medicines.

ICE Pharma fulfils a unique need for pharmaceutical and biotech industries with its ingredients to help them treat their patients. What sets us apart is our cutting-edge R&D capabilities that, alongside or academic partners, allow us to break new ground together.

We believe our sustainability strategy will support the long-term resilience of the business and our supply chain, while providing a source of fulfilment for our employees and enabling our customers to continue developing and providing cures and treatments for hepatic and neurological diseases, and other conditions that respond to biliary acid-based therapies.

Our strategy will also create value by contributing holistically to both a healthier society and the environment through our sustainability actions. We all have our part to play and we believe that “actions speak louder than words”: our commitment is not limited just to the way we produce and distribute our products but includes all our business activities.

With this sustainability journey in mind, we translate our sustainability values into actions at CPHI Barcelona 2023, developing a booth made of completely recyclable materials. Our booth is exclusively constructed using eco-sustainable materials – white corrugated cardboard and Linoleum® – making it 100% recyclable. The entire lifecycle of the structure is designed to be environmentally sustainable, from its conception, design, production, and shipping to its use, disposal, or reuse.

This redefines our approach to exhibitions, such as CPHI, seeing them not just as a self-contained experience, but as part of a broader commitment by our company to sustainable choices and strategies. In addition to the choice of materials that allow for the total recycling of the structure, we managed to reuse material waste generated during the production of the booth to create the furniture elements for the exhibition, such as tables and seating.

By optimising the executive design related to the cutting of the cardboard panels needed for the booth's construction, usable material has been obtained for the creation of new forms that would otherwise have been immediately sent for recycling.

This approach makes the construction of the booth even more environmentally virtuous, not only involving the recycling of the booth but also a reduction in waste generated during its production.
