Fujifilm begins commissioning phase of new Netherlands-based manufacturing facility
The facility will increase the production capacity of cell culture media products and provide a hub for European and global markets
Having completed construction, Fujifilm Irvine Scientific is now moving into the commissioning phase of its new sustainable manufacturing facility for cell culture media products in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
In line with this milestone, validation of the facility and equipment is also underway in anticipation of full operations starting in late 2021.
The facility will manufacture dry powder media, liquid media, buffers, and water for injection (WFI), initially increasing the company’s production capacity with greater than 320,000 kg/year of dry powder media and more than 470,000 L/year of liquids. The site also has the physical capacity to allow the company to further expand rapidly.
Completion of this third facility, which joins the company’s manufacturing locations in the US and Japan, marks an important step in the company’s long-term strategy to ensure its capacity is in line with worldwide customer demand.
According to the company, the location of the 250,000 sq. ft manufacturing site is in a key European position, offering customers more local supply with increased efficiency, cost-savings in shipping, and a secure supply chain.
Furthermore, the facility employs strategies that adhere to the Fujifilm Sustainability Value Plan 2030, including working towards a CO2-neutral status, using wind energy for the production process, and using sustainable technologies such as membrane bioreactors for wastewater purification.
