Patent received for new drug delivery system tech
A new drug delivery system has been developed by BioChemics that involves creating targeted molecules.
A patent has been received for a drug delivery technology designed by BioChemics that promises to offer a new breakthrough in the administering of treatments.
Called Bifunctional Synthetic Molecule (BSM), the new technology involves bonding molecules together to create new chemically stable structures containing properties that allow them to effectively penetrate skin and other tissue.
It also allows for co-localisation of different components in the new molecules at the same time in target tissues, further improving drug efficacy.
BioChemics explained that the molecules can be used to create new chemical entities designed, for example, to have significant tissue targeting properties.
"I am excited that we have been awarded this new technology," said John Masiz, President of BioChemics.
"This technology may allow us to create 'smart drugs' that have the ability to find the specific diseased tissue target in the body and then concentrate the active drug into that specific tissue for a better therapeutic event."
He added that it could also help to minimise side effects since non-targeted tissue will not be impacted by the molecules.
