Pharma Firms Seek EU Concessions to Protect Drug Supply to Troubled Nations
The head of the EFPIA has urged EU leaders to grant concessions to prevent problems with the supply and demand of medicines in the region.
Drugmakers in Europe have asked EU leaders to provide two major concessions to help maintain the flow of medicines into troubled countries such as Greece and Spain.
Both nations have been hit hard by the economic crisis and this in turn has affected pharmaceutical companies, which have had to contend with payment arrears and price cuts.
Andrew Witty, head of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), has written to EU heads of states ahead of a summit on June 28th-29th to warn of the potential consequences.
He called for "a more vigorous industrial and innovation policy" to ensure investment is not driven elsewhere.
