Indian drug manufacturer Granules India formed a joint venture last Thursday with Belgian chemical company Ajinomoto Omnichem to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates.

The generics market is now estimated to be worth $234bn, and generic drug manufacturers largely outsource their needs for active pharmaceutical ingredients.
