Leuprorelin (3M, 6M)

Leuprorelin uses lyophilized microsphere technology with leuprolide acetate embedded in biodegradable PLGA polymer microcapsules. The active drug is released in two phases—diffusion and bioerosion—enabling 3-month or 6-month dosing intervals. As a GnRH agonist, it induces pituitary desensitization to reduce testosterone to castration levels, providing effective palliative treatment for advanced prostate cancer while preserving reversibility and protecting against the long-term consequences of hypoandrogenism such as osteoporosis and muscle atrophy. The significantly reduced injection frequency minimizes healthcare burden and patient inconvenience, with clinical trials demonstrating greater than 90% patient completion rates over one year of therapy.
