Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide with dual applications in medicine and pest control. In clinical use, it serves as a topical treatment for scabies and head lice, formulated in creams, lotions, and soaps to eliminate mites, lice, and their eggs.

Beyond its medical use, Permethrin is also employed as a non-systemic insecticide in agriculture and public health. It acts primarily through contact and stomach poisoning, effectively controlling a variety of pests on crops, in animal housing facilities, and in vector control programs.
