Promega Corp opens new facility in Shanghai

US company Promega is celebrating the opening of a new manufacturing site in Shanghai.

Promega Corporation, a provider of technical support to the life sciences industry, has opened a new facility in Shanghai, China.

The new site will cater for molecular biology reagent production, research, development and cGMP manufacturing capabilities for molecular diagnostics products.

Forty scientists, technicians and administrators are expected to begin working at the new Shanghai Promega Biological Products facility within the next few weeks, following the building's purchase in June.

Bill Linton, chief executive officer of US-based Promega, described China as an "integral part" of the company's manufacturing and business operations.

"In 1985, Promega and two Chinese partners established Sino-American Biotechnology Corporation (SABC), the first China-US biotech joint venture in China," he revealed.

"This recent investment in the new Shanghai cGMP manufacturing facility represents Promega's continued commitment to life science in China."

Promega now has five manufacturing facilities around the world and 15 global branches, including a sales and marketing site in Beijing.
