How is tech shaping pharma packaging and drug delivery?

For a full rundown on tech trends driving the sector, catch these five sessions at Pharmapack 2022

Technological advancement is happening across the entire pharmaceutical supply chain, enabling companies to improve their products, increase efficiencies and ultimately create a better patient experience.

This is especially true when it comes to pharma packaging and drug delivery, two industries attempting to keep pace with the rapid speed of medical advances.

Connected drug delivery devices, apps and smart packaging are giving patients more autonomy than ever before and providing doctors with the real-time data they need to make treatment decisions. Advancements in AI are revolutionising manufacturing and packaging processes, while robotics remain essential for scale and efficiency.

Pharmapack 2022 is just around the corner, and this year’s event promises to showcase the most innovative technological solutions in the pharma packaging and drug delivery space. It returns this year as a SMART event, with online sessions and learning labs from May 9-27 and an in-person event in Paris, France on May 18 and 19.

For a full rundown on the tech trends driving the sector, don’t miss these five event features.

1. Connected Devices, Digital Health and Digital Therapeutics: Where are we heading and Why?

Format: Learning Lab (on-site)

Date: May 18

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, digital health has emerged as a key trend for the coming years.

This session will look at the rise of digital health solutions and therapeutics, as well as the role of connected devices. Hosted by Aptar Pharma’s Director, Business Development, Marcus Bates, this session promises to give a holistic overview of the digital health landscape, with a focus on regulatory considerations and data generation.

2. Tackling the Challenges of Cloud Connectivity

Format: Conference session (on-site)

Date: May 18

This session will dive into the world of cloud-connected medical devices and the common pitfalls faced by developers. With wireless connectivity technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC becoming cheaper and more widely adopted, medical device manufacturers are continuing to look at how they can be used to improve their products.

In this session Thomas Watts, Engineering Consultant at Team Consulting, breaks down the opportunities and challenges associated with connected medical devices.

3. Best Practice on How to Gain +10% OEE: Innovative AI-Tools for Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Production Lines

Format: Learning Lab (online only)

Date: May 12

This session, hosted by plus10 GmbH CEO Felix Georg Müller, will explore the use of AI tools for the production of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Plus10 will present its GMP-compliant tools, which utilise self-learning technology to minimise OEE-losses in GMP-compliant production.

4. Pharmapack Awards

Format: Hybrid (announcement online, ceremony on-site)

Date: May 17 and 18

Technology plays a central role in almost all submissions to this year’s Pharmapack Awards. Check out the Innovation Gallery for a rundown of the nominees and tune in to the online awards ceremony on May 17, which will be followed by an in-person Awards and Exhibitor Networking Party on May 18.

5. Start-up Hub

Format: On-site feature

Date: May 18-19

The Start-up Hub is a dedicated area for companies developing and expanding new technologies in the fields of pharmaceutical packaging, labelling, drug delivery device design and engineering. This year’s exhibitors include Axom, who use AI to deliver counting and inspection solutions, and Precirobotics by Juvaplus, who plan to showcase a range of robotically assisted syringes. Drop by and meet the companies or listen in on the pitching session, taking place on May 18 at the show floor theatre.
